The placebo/nocebo effect definitely exists. The other day, out of the blue, my mother had asked me if I'd had any seizures lately (I have hydrocephalus and I take two antiseizure meds). Since my seizures are well-controlled, I didn't know why she felt it necessary to ask me that question, and I told her "No". For the last several days, even though I'm vigilant about remembering to take all my pills on time, I've felt like I'm having mild partial-onset seizures. I'd like to think it's simply a case of my mother "freaking me out" because her question has made me "hypervigilant".
